Three months after Chicago was filled with thousands of athletes, artists, fans and spectators for the 2006 Gay Games, local organizers are in the final stages of the wind-down of the sports and cultural festival. Part of that process includes the liquidation of thousands of dollars in equipment, merchandise, and many of the banners and signage that decorated the City and sports venues during the 2006 Gay Games.

On Saturday and Sunday, October 21-22, 2006, Chicago organizers will hold a final warehouse sale in cooperation with the Brown Elephant, the resale shops that benefit Chicago’s Howard Brown Health Center. The warehouse sale will take place from 11 am to 6 pm at the Lakeview and Andersonville Brown Elephant locations: 3651 N. Halsted Street and 5404 N. Clark Street, Chicago.

Items available for sale will include country and state banners used in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies at Soldier and Wrigley Field; street pole banners that flew throughout the City; directional signage and banners that hung at sports and cultural venues; unsold t-shirts, posters, pins, music CDs, photo DVDs and other commemorative merchandise; sponsor-donated, but unused, products like Gatorade water coolers; and miscellaneous other furniture, signage and product used for the 2006 Gay Games.

"The 2006 Gay Games were an incredible experience for Chicago," said Tracy Baim, Gay Games Chicago Co-Vice Chair. "We cheered as each country entered Soldier Field behind Chicago volunteers carrying colorful country signs with the Gay Games logo. We felt great pride driving through Hyde Park and looking up to see Gay Games banners flying from light poles. And we marveled how the city welcomed the LGBT world to Chicago with so many of us being recognizable in our Gay Games t-shirts around town. Our warehouse sale will give Chicagoans of all types a chance to own a piece of this great moment in our city’s history."
