While most people recognize that the Gay Games features international competition in 30 sports, the Gay Games cultural program also highlights the most internationally recognized choral groups in the world.

Gay Games VII Sports & Cultural Festival takes place 15-22 July 2006 and will include an eight-day choral showcase highlighted by "Sing Out," the free mass choral concert on Wednesday, 19 July 2006, and participation by world choruses in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Chicago Games, Inc. (CGI), the organizers Gay Games, today announced the Choral conductors for Gay Games VII including:
  • James Knapp, Artistic Director for the Bayou City Performing Arts, will serve as the "Sing Out" Concert Conductor.

  • Dr. Kathleen McGuire, internationally acclaimed Choral Director of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus and Director of the Sydney 2002 Gay Games Choral Concert, has been chosen as the Opening Ceremony Music Director and Mass Chorus Conductor. Opening Ceremony will be 15 July 2006 at Chicago's Soldier Field.

  • Joseph Nadeau, Music Director of the Kansas City Heartland Men's Chorus, has been dubbed by his peers as "the rising star" of choral directors. He will use his experience of presenting contemporary renditions of traditional choral arrangements as the Choral Director for Closing Ceremony, 22 July 2006 at Chicago’s Wrigley Field.
The choral concert, "Sing Out" will take place on Wednesday 19 July 2006 at the award-winning outdoor J. Pritzker Pavilion located in Millennium Park. With fixed seating and a 95,000-square-foot lawn area, the architectural wonder has room for 11,000 spectators, all of whom will enjoy excellent sound quality provided through a state-of-the-art trellis network of speakers - the first of its kind in the world.

In collaboration with the Grant Park Chorus and Symphony, the free choral concert will showcase over 500 participants representing over 100 choruses from around the world. In addition to the 11,000-person audience, the event will be broadcast for cable television by the Q Television network. QTV's signal will be unscrambled during the Gay Games, providing access to the broadcast in over 150 international markets.

In addition to the ceremonies and "Sing Out," the Gay Games choral program will include a Women's Chorus, singing at various women specific events, and a Gospel Chorus and Spirit Music Festival.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies will include specially arranged compositions of the official Gay Games Anthems and Chicago Gay Games Anthem by Dr. McGuire and Mr. Nadeau who will conduct the mass choruses of the ceremonies.
