~ Profile on Victor Skrebneski

The City of Chicago has announced that world-renowned photographer Victor Skrebneski has graciously agreed to photograph Chicago residents who will participate in the 2006 Gay Games Sports and Cultural Festival for a special exhibition scheduled for 13 July to 9 October 2006. The photographs will be on display at the City Gallery at the Historic Water Tower, 806 North Michigan Avenue, on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. Gay Games VII will take place in Chicago 15-22 July 2006.

As currently envisioned, the exhibition will consist of black and white portraits of 15 Chicagoans by Skrebneski reflecting the spectrum of events at Gay Games VII including athletes, dancers, and musicians. He will combine the portraits with color photographs provided by the participants of themselves being active in their sport or artistic activity. The portraits and color photos will be combined into diptychs, one for each person.

The 15 participants will be selected based on the principle of inclusion that forms the core value for the Gay Games. The participants will reflect Chicago’s communities as a whole and will be chosen to reflect diversity within gender, race, ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

Further details will be available from the City of Chicago and Gay Games Chicago early in 2006.
